I had the Litter Genie (LG) for my cat, but the top lid broke after about a year and there is no step-on option to open it. It was also tedious and messy to swap out the bags.
I bought the Diaper Genie and haven’t looked back. The refill bags are about the same price (maybe a little cheaper) as for the LG and the door to swap out the bags is push-button and much easier than the LG. The step-on option is perfect compared to the manual operation of the LG.
Note: The dispenser is round compared to the square shape of the LG, so you cannot interchange the bags.

Cons: The ONLY issues I have are: The top of the unit collects a bit of the litter because the opening doesn’t fully fit the width of the litter scoop, so you have to angle the scoop a little to drop the waste in; the DG is also several inches taller than the LG, so you have to be careful not to drop any waste when moving it from the litter box to the top of the unit.

Pro Tip: Instead of knotting the bags (extra messy when dealing with pet waste), I use the smallest size zip ties to secure the top and bottom. As long as you lock them down extra tight they hold really well. Also, you save a couple of inches of the bags that way too.

We highly recommend this diaper pail. We tried other brands and nothing compares. Easy to clean out with odor blocking scents.

    This works great

The diaper genie is my favorite. It’s super easy to use and set up.

The media could not be loaded.

It’s flimsy when we received it. This is our second time buying it. The first one we bought it 4 years ago. Not sure if it’s because of delivery or the quality of it. Truly disappointing

Have been using this Diaper Genie since my son was born (16 months) and can’t imagine any other way of disposing of his diapers in a clean, efficient and as scent free of a way as possible.

It’s important to know that you need to get the charcoal inserts to limit the smell. If you’re using it without the charcoal, there will be a diaper smell that wafts from the Diaper Genie. Also, I found that the Playtex brand bag refills work much better than the no-name brand refills. The name brand refills slide much easier down into the Genie, which makes it less of a hassle in day-to-day use.

Highly recommended over the other versions of diaper genie. The foot pedal on this version makes the entire experience much cleaner and easier for a busy parent.

This specialty garbage can works well. However I don’t know why the special garbage bag should be so pricey. Disappointed with capitalism and felt robbed by being a mom 🙁

I just bought a second Diaper Genie for my brother, who is expecting their first little on in February. My little girl is a year and a half now, so my Diaper Genie is that old. I have to say this thing is super convenient. I have not owned any other diaper pail so I have no experience to compare them, but I’ll give you my pros and cons to this thing and you can decide where to go from there.

PROS: other than putting in the trash bags for it and the carbon filter on top, the Diaper Genie comes already put together. When my little one was younger and on formula, her #2s were messy but not overly stinky. Worst case scenario if the Diaper Genie got “dirty”, it was simple to wash off with a water hose or just use some disinfectant wipes. As she has gotten into eating solid foods, man does that #2 stink…. this Diaper Genie is a life saver and beats using a grocery store’s plastic bag or putting those dirty diapers in our trash can. It does a great job of isolating the smell. Lastly, the Diaper Genie doesn’t stand out and blends in pretty well with any set up you may have for your little one. Changing out the bags can be simple as it comes with a little mechanism that can be used to cut the bag. Just don’t let the bag get too full as that can complicate things.

CONS: This does a great job at trapping smells, but when you open the door you release the beast! I strongly recommend buying extra carbon filters as they help with the smell some. I feel this will apply with any diaper pail. Expect vengeance from the smells when you open that door. Also, the garbage bags took me a minute to learn how to install but my wife had no issues. That was Probably just user error. The other con is that those bag refills aren’t expensive but they aren’t cheap either. If you have multiple kids you may run out a little quicker. I only have my one little girl now so it’s not a big issue for me. I’ve seen others make the comment that the door doesn’t close properly, which just means that the diaper pail is very full. Change that bad boy out and you shouldn’t have any issues.

In the end I strongly recommend this product as it will save your nose. Just do yourself a favor and grab some extra carbon filters.

I love this diaper genie because its easy to use while you’re holding your baby. It does slams the wall if you put it against the wall. So leave some space between it and the wall so you don’t scare your baby. I recommend not leaving soil diapers in there for too long or the smell will spread a little. At least that’s what I have experienced. For the most part, it keeps the bad odor at bay. Now I keep it in the bathroom.

    This product has it all:
1- Perfectly keeps the bad smell inside the bin
    2- Perfect size
3- Very practical and hassle free.

Es súper practico, fácil de usar y de verdad guarda olores, la habitación no huele nada a pañal. Las bolsas fáciles de poner solo que el filo de la navaja para cortar la bolsa es muy leve.

Feels cheap, unlike the original diaper Geanie with the twist. I’m
Using this for our dog poop bags, to eliminate the flys that attack our garbage bins. For this purpose, I’m thrilled with the results!! But for $47 feels like a $15 quality from China, no doubt. I am disappointed that even buying the band brand it is very flimsy plastic parts. Do better!!!

Love it. Simple and elegant solution for disposing diapers. Easy to assemble, easy to operate. My only concern is the base is a bit too narrow for the height. It does not feel stable enough when stands on the carpet without leaning on the wall.
